The Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) has delivered the ship “Luna Seaways” (IMO 9851048), a sister ship of the “Aura Seaways”, contracted by the Danish company DFDS and flagged in Denmark. It will soon begin its long positioning journey and upon arrival will undergo interior work before entering service.
Both ships are the largest capacity vessels of the mentioned shipping company, accommodating 690 passengers in 250 cabins plus 62 crew members and 4,500 linear meters of roll-on/roll-off cargo. Therefore, it is a remarkable ship in its category, with a gross tonnage of 54,900 tons and a deadweight of 12,750 tons, on a hull measuring 230 m in length. The service speed will be 23 knots, powered by four Wärtsila engines coupled to two shafts and variable pitch propellers.
The new ship meets the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) design standards and CO2 emissions per tow are slightly more than 20% lower than those of the ships currently operating on the Karlshamn-Klaipeda and Kiel-Klaipeda routes, to which it will be assigned.
