Tesla is accelerating its manufacturing footprint in Europe through a fresh capital injection. As quoted from Detik Finance, the electric automaker announced on May 12 a $250 million investment at its Gigafactory located outside Berlin, Germany.
This financial commitment serves to expand the facility’s capacity for manufacturing electric vehicle battery cells. With this latest development, Tesla intends to build the necessary infrastructure to scale up annual output to 18 GWh, representing a significant increase from the original 8 GWh target.
The Berlin-Brandenburg facility holds strategic importance as Tesla’s inaugural manufacturing location within the European continent, having launched its operations in March 2022. During the first quarter, the factory achieved a production milestone by delivering more than 61,000 units.

The company also plans to increase the assembly volume of its popular Model Y vehicle at the German plant by 20% starting in July 2026. To support this production ramp-up, Tesla intends to expand its workforce by recruiting approximately 1,000 new workers and transitioning hundreds of temporary staff members into permanent positions.
