The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority has called on Maersk to gradually resume its transits through the Canal during a meeting with the Danish Ambassador.

Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, received Lars Bo Møller, Ambassador of Denmark to Cairo, to discuss future cooperation in areas of mutual interest. At the beginning of the meeting, Admiral Rabie welcomed the Danish Ambassador on his first visit to the Suez Canal Authority and expressed his hope to continue the constructive cooperation in the coming period on issues of mutual concern.

Amongst other topics, the meeting also included discussions on the latest developments in the Red Sea region, during which Admiral Rabie invited the Maersk Group to consider gradually resuming transits through the Suez Canal, as one of the major shipping lines with long-standing ties to the Canal.

For his part, Ambassador Lars Bo Møller expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Suez Canal Authority in maintaining its partnership with the Maersk Group, a partnership most evident at the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said. Regarding the situation in the Red Sea, the Ambassador emphasized that the return of major shipping lines to transit the Suez Canal is inevitable, describing the Canal as a “gateway for global trade.” He added that Maersk continues to monitor the situation, awaiting greater stability in the region.

The Danish Ambassador noted that the container terminal in East Port Said is also undergoing major expansions, which will significantly enhance the competitiveness of East Port Said Port and help transform it into a regional hub that supports Egypt’s development needs.
