WISCONSIN — This week on the “Voices for Veterans” series, we spotlight the New Berlin Veterans Memorial Society

Mary Jane Whitty, president of the organization, joined Spectrum News to talk about NBVMS’ mission to foster community-oriented stewardship and involvement that recognizes the value of the New Berlin Veterans past, present and future.

The New Berlin Veterans Memorial site is located at the corner of Casper Drive and National Avenue in New Berlin, 16248 W. National Ave. Memorial bricks with engraved names at the site honor the fallen.

The memorial is in the heart of the city and serves as a local gathering space for events such as the annual “Light the Lights” holiday celebration and “Fly the Flag” Day.

The 2026 Flag Day Celebration is scheduled for Friday, June 12 at 6 p.m. The ceremony recognizes the flag that flies proudly over New Berlin and our country. Those gathered can enjoy an Elegant Farmer Apple Pie social, complete with door prizes.

In the fall, the annual New Berlin Veterans Memorial Society fundraiser will take place to support upkeep costs and improvements for the memorial. It’s scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at the New Berlin VFW post. There will be raffle baskets, a live auction, dancing, music, and more.
