May 20 (Reuters) – French IT group Sopra Steria said on Wednesday its ‌defence and space unit CS ‌Group had won a contract to supply two ​counter-drone systems to protect NATO’s headquarters in Brussels.

Drone technology has gained the spotlight in recent years as wars in ‌Ukraine and ⁠the Middle East underscore the growing threat posed by unmanned ⁠aerial systems to military and civilian infrastructure.

• NATO will deploy two BOREADES counter-unmanned ​aircraft systems

• ​Contract value ​was not disclosed

• ‌NATO carried out an international tender, choosing from several dozen international manufacturers

• Counter-drone systems will protect the alliance’s HQ and the Secretary General’s residence in the ‌Belgian capital

• More ​than 50 BOREADES systems ​are in ​service, with nearly a hundred ‌in production, CS said

• ​The system ​has been deployed at major public events in France, such as the ​Paris ‌Olympics and the July 14 military ​parade
