Great Britain end day one with 2-0 lead
The Lexus Great Britain Davis Cup team have got their 2026 Qualifier tie off to the perfect start – ending day one with a 2-0 lead over Norway.
Jack Draper gave the Brits the early lead after securing a straight sets victory over Viktor Durasovic in his first competitive match since August 2025. Then, it was over to British No.2 Cam Norrie who fought past an inspired Nicolai Budkov Kjaer.
The Brits are just one win away from booking their spot in September’s Qualifier Second Round and will be gunning to get the job finished on Friday.

It was a tricky challenge for Norrie, who fought hard to overcome rising star Kjaer 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes in the second match of the tie.
“It was an amazing start for Jack – it’s not easy to come back from that injury he’s had and to play a match where he’s a big favourite”, Norrie said. “He was really calm, he played really well and he enjoyed it – that gave me a lot of confidence to come out and play free.”
The 19-year-old – who made headlines last season by winning four ATP Challenger titles – piled the pressure on the Briton and was rewarded with a break point in the fourth game, which Norrie managed to fend off.
Norrie managed to raise his level when he needed it most. At 4-4, he brought an end to Kjaer’s run of 16 successive points on serve and went on to seal the decisive break to take the first set.
Former Wimbledon boys’ singles champion Kjaer appeared to be in the driving seat early in the second set after breaking Norrie in the third game to open up a 4-1 lead but the five-time ATP titleholder drew on all his experience to overturn the deficit and claw back level.
From there, Norrie was firing on all cyclinders. At 4-4, the Brit struck a thunderous forehand winner to break for a second time and shift the momentum firmly back in his corner.
The Norwegian threatened one final twist with a break point as Norrie served for the match, but the world No.26 produced back-to-back aces to set up match point. Norrie held his nerve before calmly closing out his fifth consecutive game and seal his 10th victory for his country.

Draper made a winning statement on his return to competitive tennis – beating Norwegian No.3 Durasovic 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour.
“It’s really good to play here in Oslo and have my first match in a long time,” Draper said in his on-court interview. “To get a point on the board for Great Britain. I haven’t played Davis Cup in a long time so it’s good to be out here and I’m proud of my performance today.”
Stepping onto the match court for the first time in five months, Draper showed little sign of nerves against the Norwegian star. He kicked off his opening service game with a confident hold to love before immediately turning up the pressure on return.
A cross-court forehand pushed long by the Norwegian handed Draper two break points, and he needed just one opportunity to seize an early lead.
Draper continued his impressive start throughout the opener. A winner at the net brought up a further two break points on the Durasovic serve. With the pressure mounting on the world No.313, an untimely double fault gifted the double break before the British No.1 served out the set in just 27 minutes.
The three-time ATP titleholder stayed on the front foot and picked up where he left off in the second set. A fortunate net cord trickled over to the Norwegian’s side of the court to clinch the opening break as the Brit raced into a 4–0 lead.
The reigning Indian Wells champion eventually converted his second match point after the Norwegian sent a backhand long, sealing Draper’s second Davis Cup win for his nation.
