Orsted Energizes All Inter-Array Cables at Greater Changhua 2b and 4 Offshore Wind Farms - News and Statistics

Orsted has confirmed that all inter-array cables at the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan are now installed and energized. The developer stated via social media that commissioning and grid integration work continues to ensure seamless operation of the complex systems.

According to the source, offshoreWIND.biz, all 42 wind turbines at the project’s second phase—the 583 MW Greater Changhua 4—are connected to Taipower’s grid and generating electricity. The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 complex, located 35 to 60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County, comprises 66 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 wind turbines. It is the first offshore wind farm globally to install 14 MW turbines with blades measuring 115 meters in length.

Offshore construction began in February 2025. The first turbine was installed at Greater Changhua 2b in April of last year, shortly after the first suction bucket jacket foundation was placed by Cadeler‘s vessel Wind Maker. First power was generated in July 2025, and the 66th and final turbine was installed in January of this year.

Once fully operational—expected in the third quarter of 2026—Greater Changhua 2b and 4 will supply renewable electricity to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) under a corporate power purchase agreement signed in 2020.
