Singer and Eurovision 1964 representative for Denmark, Bjørn Tidmand, has died at the age of 86.
Bjørn Tidmand, who is best known for representing Denmark on home soil at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964, has died at the age of 86. Bjørn was born in 1940 and was a member of the Copenhagen Boys Choir as a young man, before he had his breakthrough in 1963. In 1963, he competed in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and came second with “Amiga mia”, coming second to Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, who would go on to win the Eurovision Song Contest 1963.
He would return to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 1964 and won the contest to represent Denmark in Copenhagen. He took to the stage with “Sangen om dig”, which would place 9th in the competition. Following the contest, he would go on to be a popular singer in the 60s and 70s. Bjørn would continue to tour and perform across Denmark until he eventually retired at the age of 80 in 2020.

Denmark debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 alongside Austria and the United Kingdom. To date, Denmark has won the contest on three occasions, the first being in 1963 when Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann performed “Dansevise”. Denmark won the contest again in 2000, represented by the Olsen Brothers. Their most recent victory came in 2013, when Emmelie de Forest performed “Only Teardrops”.
