AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (WNYT) — State Police said an Amsterdam man was arrested after officers found a loaded handgun, cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a search tied to a local investigation.

According to investigators, troopers and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jamal L. Decoteau-Hird, 28, on May 26. He is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Police said the arrest followed an ongoing Fulton County Sheriff’s Office investigation and a search warrant at Decoteau-Hird’s home near West Main Street in Amsterdam. During the search, police said they found an illegally possessed loaded handgun, felony weight narcotics that field-tested positive for cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Police said Decoteau-Hird was found in Amsterdam. He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash, $50,000 bond or a $100,000 partially secured bond.
