Foreign visitor numbers in Finland increased in April, helping push total overnight stays at accommodation establishments above last year’s level despite mixed regional results.
Preliminary figures from Statistics Finland show that accommodation providers recorded 1.48 million overnight stays during April 2026, up 1 per cent from the same month a year earlier.
The increase was driven by international visitors, whose overnight stays rose by 4 per cent to around 330,000 nights.
Domestic tourism remained stable. Finnish residents accounted for 1.15 million overnight stays, a figure largely unchanged from April 2025.
Visitors from neighbouring Sweden generated the highest number of foreign overnight stays, followed by travellers from Germany and the United States.
Uusimaa remained Finland’s busiest tourism region. Accommodation establishments in the region recorded around 510,000 overnight stays during the month, an increase of 5 per cent from the previous year.
Lapland ranked second with 190,000 overnight stays. The region recorded a 6 per cent decline compared with April 2025, making it one of the few major tourism areas to post a decrease.
Hotels reported an average room occupancy rate of 47 per cent nationwide during April.
The average price of a hotel room stood at €113 per night.
Lapland continued to record the country’s highest hotel room prices, with the average nightly rate reaching €144.
The figures suggest that international demand for travel to Finland continued to strengthen during the spring, while domestic tourism remained broadly steady.
