After the announcement in September 2025 by the Danish Government of the decision to enhance its ground-based air defence capabilities, selecting the French-Italian Eurosam SAMP/T NG system for the long-range capability, the Danish MoD has given the green light to the initial procurement related to the Eurosam GBAD system. According to a press statement of the French DGA released on 6 February regarding the procurement activities in 2025, among the order for other European countries, the French agency also indicates “initial acquisition of Aster surface-to-air missiles for Denmark”. Although no further details were released on the specific topic on the press statement, EDR On-Line understood it regards a so-called “long lead items production order” for the components of the French-Italian new generation GBAD system. The procurement step is a significant milestone not only for the Danish MoD, to enhance its national air defence coverage against aerial and ballistic missiles threats, but also for the Eurosam JV between MBDA France, MBDA Italia and Thales.
