da nang, copenhagen strengthen connections for green development picture 1

On June 20, the Da Nang People’s Committee, in coordination with the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, launched the event “Copenhagen-Da Nang : A Green Journey Along the Han River” at APEC Park with a view to strengthening  exchanges and connections between the two sides in green and sustainable urban development.

At the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Chi Cuong said the event is a meaningful activity celebrating the friendship and strong cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark, while reaffirming growing cooperation between Da Nang and Danish partners.

Denmark is an important partner of Vietnam in promoting sustainable development, green growth and energy transition. For Da Nang, cooperation with Danish partners has brought valuable experience in urban planning, environmental management and green infrastructure development, Cuong added.

He said Da Nang is working toward becoming a regional hub for innovation, a smart city, and an environmentally friendly and highly liveable city, with green transition, digital transformation and sustainable development as key strategic pillars.

In this process, Copenhagen’s advanced development models serve as an important reference in helping shape policies and improve urban development quality toward a modern, sustainable and people-centred city.

For his part, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolai Prytz said Copenhagen and Da Nang share many similarities as dynamic coastal port cities, with both pursuing sustainable development, green urban development and people-centred development.

He said he was impressed by the strong public response to the event and expressed confidence that cooperation between Denmark and Da Nang will continue to expand in areas such as green transition, sustainable urban development, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.

A highlight of the event was a cycling activity through central streets and iconic landmarks, including APEC Park and Dragon Bridge, aimed at promoting green lifestyles, environmentally friendly transport and greater public awareness of sustainable development.

As part of the event, a thematic exhibition running from June 20 to 22 at APEC Park introduces Copenhagen as one of the leading models of green urban development, sustainable transport and cycling culture. The exhibition also features images about  Da Nang’s landscape, culture, daily life and development achievements.

Organisers said the event demonstrates the shared goals of Vietnam and Denmark in building greener, more sustainable and more liveable cities.

With support from Danish companies operating in central Vietnam, including Carlsberg and APM Terminals, the programme also shows  the increasingly active role of the Danish business community in Vietnam’s green transition.

As both nations prepare to mark 55 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, Da Nang is drawing growing interest from Danish partners in investment, business, knowledge exchange, culture and people-to-people connectivity, thereby contributing to more substantive and effective cooperation between the two sides.
