Good Energy signs its ‘largest ever’ 400 GWh PPA deal

The PPA, which runs from October 2026 to October 2028, will allow Good Energy to purchase 200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity over each of the two years, supplying up to 74,000 UK homes annually.

The electricity is being supplied by Ørsted’s Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms, which are off the coast of Cumbria. As part of the deal, Good Energy will consume around one-sixth of the wind farms’ total output.

Fran Woodward, managing director of supply at Good Energy, stated: “This agreement with Ørsted is a key milestone for Good Energy and marks the largest energy supply deal we have ever signed. More importantly, it represents a step change in the scale of our supply at a time when demand for home‑grown renewable power is accelerating, driven by an ongoing energy crisis and heightened global instability.

“By partnering with Ørsted on Walney, we’re significantly increasing the amount of predictable UK renewable power in our portfolio. That scale allows us to bring clean, reliable energy to more households across the UK, while also supporting businesses that are investing in the energy transition and looking for greater certainty and renewable security as they navigate increasingly volatile energy markets.”

Joseph Conlan, head of origination at Ørsted, added: “We value our strong collaboration with Good Energy, and this PPA reflects the shared success we’ve built together on our previous PPA’s. As Good Energy looks to expand its supply in the UK, we are keen to further develop this relationship and support their continued growth alongside our own portfolio developments. Together, we share the desire to speed up the transition to a sustainable energy system.”

Supporting cleaner data centres

The new deal follows another agreement made between the pair in 2023, which sees Good Energy receive 110 GWh a year from Ørsted’s Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm. Together, the projects are supporting Good Energy’s expansion across more domestic households and large energy users, including data centres.

Giving the huge volumes of power they consume, set to only increase as artificial intelligence (AI) workloads ramp up, data centres are under pressure to decarbonise rapidly and scale in a way that doesn’t strain the grid or rely on fossil fuel-generated power.

In April 2026, Good Energy announced a deal with Stellium Datacenters for one of the UK’s largest purpose-built data centre campuses on a site near Newcastle.

The deal is set to help cut the centre’s carbon emissions by 75%, linking the site’s power consumption to the clean energy generated by various renewable generators that Good Energy works with.
