Day, NY (WRGB) — New York State Police have arrested an Amsterdam man following an investigation into reports of inappropriate sexual conduct involving teens in the Town of Day.

State Police say 28-year-old Melvin Gonzalez of Amsterdam, was arrested on January 31, 2026, and charged with:

Three counts of Forcible Touching, a Class A misdemeanorTwo counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanorTwo counts of Public Lewdness, a Class B misdemeanor

According to investigators, troopers received a report on August 12, 2025, regarding a past sexual assault. The investigation determined that in July 2025, Gonzalez reportedly forcibly touched the intimate parts of multiple teens known to him while in the Town of Day. Authorities say Gonzalez also reportedly exposed his intimate parts to the teens in a public location.

Gonzalez later surrendered himself to State Police in Fonda, where he was arrested and processed.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Day Town Court on February 11, 2026, and released.
