Orsted has hired a new head of generation for the UK – the Danish offshore wind giant’s largest market.
Peter Hepburn will join Orsted in October from UK-based power producer Spirit Energy, where he was operations director.
At Orsted, Hepburn will head a generation operation comprising 650 workers and 12 operational offshore wind farms with a 5.7GW capacity.
It is currently building the 2.9GW Hornsea 3 mega-project in the North Sea and also has in its locker the 2.4GW Hornsea 4, which controversially returned a UK contract for difference power deal after Orsted decided it was no longer viable on existing terms.
Hepburn has also previously worked for EnQuest and Maersk Oil, and according to Orsted “has successfully led large-scale operational improvement programmes, strengthened governance and developed high-performing organisations across offshore energy businesses”.
Orsted’s chief generation officer Godson Njoku said of Hepburn: “His extensive operational experience, proven leadership and deep understanding of safety-critical offshore industries make him exceptionally well placed to lead one of the world’s largest offshore wind generation portfolios.”
Orsted recently carried out a shake up of its UK top team, with Richard Bodal Hansen taking over as its new country manager, succeeding industry veteran Benj Sykes who has taken up a new role of UK country chair.(Copyright)
