It has been confirmed that âFor vi gĂ„r hjemâ will be performed in Danish at the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Following discussions with DR, SĂžren Torpegaard Lund has confirmed that his song âFor vi gĂ„r hjemâ will remain in Danish for the Eurovision Song Contest. The announcement comes as Denmark currently sits among the favourites to win the 70th edition of the competition in Vienna this May. SĂžren Torpegaard Lund commented:
âFor me, it has never been about which language I would prefer. It has been about being open to the process and giving all possibilities an honest chance. Together with my team, the songwriters and DR, we have investigated what could give the song the best conditions internationally.
But the further we got into the process, the clearer it became that âBefore we go homeâ already stands strongest where it started â in its original Danish language. This is the version that a whole community both inside and outside of Denmark has fallen in love with.
Even those who donât understand Danish have fallen in love with an atmosphere and a vibe. And I actually experience thatâs a strength. When the language is not understood word for word, a mystery emerges that perfectly fits the songâs theme about temptation and what happens after midnight. The Danish language is allowed to be something attractive and almost enchanting.
Thatâs you too, the song has lived in my heart from the beginning. And I take pride in standing by what feels authentic to me. Sometimes it takes the courage to defy statistics and expectations but for me, authenticity is most important. This is the one that makes my performance the strongest.
Therefore it feels absolutely right to let the song live on in its original form. I am both proud of it and really happy about it.â
Despite the abolishment of the language rule in Eurovision in 1998, all entries in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix had to be performed in Danish until 2005. From 1999 to 2005, all of the Danish entries were translated to English for Eurovision. The last Danish entry to be performed completely in Danish was in 2021, when Fyr og Flamme performed âĂve os pĂ„ hinandenâ in Rotterdam.
SĂžren Torpegaard Lund won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 and will represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with âFĂžr vi gĂ„r hjemâ (Before we go home). He will perform in the second half of the second semi-final of May 14.
