Finland has suspended part of its decision-making on asylum applications from Iranian nationals after a change in Iran’s security situation linked to large protests and the use of force by state security units. The Finnish Immigration Service announced the pause on Thursday and said the measure remains in place until 31 March 2026.

The authority said the suspension applies only to cases that require updated information on conditions in Iran before a ruling is possible. Other applications continue through the normal process.

The Finnish Immigration Service said it continues to process all Iranian asylum applications during the pause. Officials also continue to carry out asylum interviews. Only the final decisions in certain cases remain on hold.

The authority said it will resume full decision-making once it gathers enough information to assess conditions in Iran. Clients receive direct notice when the pause ends.

Around 100 Iranian asylum applications are under review at present.

The service operates under Finnish and European asylum law. These rules require decisions to rely on current and verified country information. The authority said issuing decisions without that information risks incorrect outcomes.
