Vilnius Hydrogen Station to Use UMOE Storage, Fueling 16 Buses in 2026 - News and Statistics

UMOE Advanced Composites (UAC) has been selected to supply hydrogen storage containers for a refueling station in Lithuania, according to the source. The Norwegian company, a global supplier of large type IV glass fibre pressure vessels, will provide four 20-foot hydrogen storage containers for a facility in Vilnius.

The hydrogen production facility is being developed by Miesto Gijos and constructed by MT Group. It will fuel 16 public transport buses, replacing diesel vehicles and cutting an estimated 1,414 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group, stated: “The Vilnius project demonstrates how strategic planning and political commitment can turn sustainability goals into functional, high-impact infrastructure.” He added, “UMOE Advanced Composites were able to meet all our requirements at a competitive price and will ensure we deliver a safe, robust, and technologically advanced hydrogen storage solution.”

Tove Roskaft, CEO of UMOE Advanced Composites, said: “We are proud to support MT Group in another important step for Lithuanias clean-energy transition.” Roskaft noted, “Our Type IV glass fibre hydrogen storage technology balances performance, durability and cost-efficiency, helping our customers reduce emissions and improve project economics – a critical factor for green hydrogen projects. This makes our solution a strong fit for this pioneering project in Vilnius.”

The hydrogen refueling station is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.
