Until April 10, it is possible to participate in a public consultation, while the EU Parliament has already formulated a package of proposals, approved in the AGRI Committee and expected in plenary in April.
By June this year, the Commission intends to follow up with an EU strategy for livestock farming as outlined in the “Vision for Agriculture and Food”, which recognizes the significant role of the livestock sector in the European economy and food value chain, as well as in supporting rural communities, landscape management, and safeguarding environmental values.
Amid poor economic prospects and environmental and climate impacts, the sector – according to Brussels – is at a crossroads: without the ability to turn the challenges undermining the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability into opportunities, the long-term resilience of livestock farming is at risk.
