Koppen has impressed in Denmark since being named as head of scouting and recruitment
Nils Koppen
Nils Koppen has been named FC Copenhagen’s new technical director.
The Belgian previously held the same position at Rangers until departing in the summer. Koppen initially joined the Danish giants as head of scouting and recruitment but has now been promoted to oversee football recruitment.
FC Copenhagen chief executive officer Jacob Lauren confirmed: “Nils will be responsible for everything related to transfers, and we are pleased that he is taking on this important responsibility so that we have a clear organidation for sporting operations in the coming period.
“This adjustment should be seen as part of the preliminary analysis of the club’s sporting structure, and Nils and I will work closely together in the coming period.”
Koppen takes over the role from Andreas Hintz Rocks, who has move into a position as role of recruitment insights lead.
The 40-year-old has already started work on Copenhagen’s summer transfer window.
Koppen moved from PSV Eindhoven to Rangers in 2023 as director of football recruitment.
He was promoted to technical director and was responsible for signing Hamza Igamane and Jefte.
Koppen brought them in for minor fees and sold them for big money.
Igamane was sold to Lille for more than £10 million while Jefte was bought for around £800,000 and sold for around £6.5 million to Palmeiras.
The Belgian was left holding the fort, operating on a tight budget before the American takeover.
He brought in the likes of Lyall Cameron and had lined up a deal for Josh Mulligan before that was pulled.
