From the recently announced SEGA Mega Drive console, to the release of the Legacy of the Dark Knight Batman game, the LEGO Group is having a month to remember. And just when you thought things couldn’t get much better for LEGO fans, the company is back with the reveal of one of the biggest and most spectacular sets yet, as a new Lord of the Rings set is announced for June.

Featuring a whopping 8,278 pieces, the breathtaking LEGO Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith set has been given a June 1 early access release date for LEGO Insiders, and a June 4 release date for regular punters. Standing at almost 2ft tall when built, the set comes with an equally large price tag, costing £579.99 in the UK, and $649 in the US.

While it’s clearly an expensive set that won’t be for everybody, fans who are interested might want to pick it up sooner rather than later.

That’s because LEGO is offering a free bonus set that’s equally unmissable, albeit on a much smaller scale.

If you purchase the Minas Tirith set between June 1 and June 7, you’ll receive the LEGO Icons Lord of the Rings Grond set for free.

Grond is the infamous battering ram that was used by Sauron’s servants to break down the city’s Great Gate.

Despite clocking in at just 307 pieces, the Grond set is scaled to pair with Minas Tirith, making it the perfect accompaniment if you want to recreate the famous scene.

As for the Minas Tirith set, the size, scale and level of detail put into the upcoming release makes it hard to know where to begin.

At a glance, it captures the majesty of the iconic location, featuring towering city walls and the White Tree of Gondor.

It also opens up to reveal more intimate locations, including the throne room and courtyard.

The set also includes ten minifigures that played a crucial role in the Siege of Minas Tirith and days leading up to it.

This includes Gandalf the White, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin Took, Aragorn and four Soldiers of Gondor.

Shadowfax is also included, as well as various accessories such as helmets, shields and Aragorn’s crown.
