Helsinki and Riga have won the hosting rights for the 2030 Ice Hockey Men’s World Championship.
Switzerland, meanwhile, has been chosen to stage the 2028 Women’s World Championship although a host city has yet to be decided.
The 2030 edition will mark the 11th and fourth time that Finland and Latvia have hosted the event, respectively.
The venues are still to be confirmed but the last time the Finnish capital hosted in 2022, which was also the last time Finland won the title, matches were played at 8,200-capacity Helsinki Ice Hall.
Riga last staged the World Championship the following year at Arena Riga, which has a capacity of 10,300.
The joint bid from the two countries was nearly approved unanimously as it received support from 98.23% of the voting participants.
The event is set to take place from May 17 to June 2, 2030.
Group stage matches are due to be split between the two hosts, with each capital hosting one group of teams in the 16-country tournament.
Additionally, quarterfinal matches are set to be held in both cities before the semi-finals, the third-place match, and the final are expected to be played in Helsinki.
With the awarding of the rights, the next four editions of the World Championship have their hosts.
Next year will see Germany host in Dusseldorf and Mannheim before French cities Paris and Lyon stage the event in 2028.
Slovakia’s Bratislava and Kosice are then scheduled to host in 2029.
The current edition is taking place in Switzerland, with the final due to be played at Zurich’s Swiss Life Arena on Sunday (May 31).
