The Amsterdam branch of VR development company Vertigo Games is closing its doors, a decision confirmed by CEO Richard Stitselaar. The move reflects ongoing difficulties within the virtual reality sector.<\/p>\n
Stitselaar stated, “This choice was not easy, and we recognize the significant effect on the Amsterdam team.” He expressed gratitude for the team’s creativity, hard work, and dedication, emphasizing the company’s current priority of assisting those affected through the transition. He also thanked everyone who has worked at Vertigo Studios Amsterdam over the years.<\/p>\n
The publication GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Vertigo Games to inquire about the fate of its offices located in Rotterdam, other parts of the Netherlands, and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Initially known as Force Field Entertainment upon its founding in 2015, the studio became a part of Vertigo Games in 2021.<\/p>\n
The company changed hands in 2020 when Koch Media, a part of the Embracer Group, purchased it for \u20ac50 million. Two years later, Koch Media rebranded to Plaion.<\/p>\n
Recently, Vertigo Games released several projects, including Metro Awakening, The 7th Guest Remake, and Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow.<\/p>\n
The closure of Vertigo Games Amsterdam is part of a broader trend impacting the VR industry. Earlier this year, the VR platform Rec Room also announced its shutdown, and Polyarc Games underwent layoffs impacting 30 members of their workforce.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Meta has made cuts within its Reality Labs, reducing staff by 10%.
