NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) – A U.S. citizen treated in Germany \u200cafter contracting Ebola in the Democratic \u200cRepublic of Congo has been discharged, a Berlin hospital \u200bsaid on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u2022 No virus has been detected in the patient since May 30, the Charit\u00e9 hospital said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The patient, \u200cearlier identified by \u2060Serge Christian organization as medical missionary Peter Stafford, was admitted to the hospital \u2060on May 20 after contracting Ebola while treating patients in the DRC.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Ebola symptoms \u200bin the \u200bpatient “subsided significantly” after \u200btreatment that included “combined antiviral \u200ctherapy and additional supportive medical measures”, the hospital said.<\/p>\n
\u2022 \u201cWe are very pleased with the successful course of treatment and consider this a significant therapeutic success,\u201d said Leif Erik Sander, \u200ca Charit\u00e9 official.<\/p>\n
\u2022 None \u200bof the patient\u2019s five \u200bfamily members who \u200bwere classified as high-risk contacts \u200cand quarantined at Charit\u00e9 showed \u200bsymptoms of \u200binfection, the hospital said.<\/p>\n
\u2022 There were 82 confirmed Ebola deaths as of Friday \u200bsince the \u200coutbreak started in the DRC and Uganda.<\/p>\n
