{"id":102232,"date":"2026-06-08T00:57:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T00:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/102232\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T00:57:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T00:57:16","slug":"christian-eriksen-conscious-after-another-on-field-collapse-in-denmark-match-national-team-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/102232\/","title":{"rendered":"Christian Eriksen &#8216;conscious&#8217; after another on-field collapse in Denmark match, national team says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christian Eriksen was conscious and undergoing further tests in the hospital after collapsing on the field again while playing for Denmark\u2019s national team on Sunday in a scary scene that had echoes of his <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/Eriksen-denmark-finland-europe-euro-2020-soccer-9911d934556c6b181636f47dedf20888\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cardiac arrest<\/a> at the European Championship five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>TV footage showed the 34-year-old midfielder clutching his chest with both hands in an off-the-ball action in the 65th minute of Denmark\u2019s international friendly against Ukraine at Nature Energy Park in Odense, Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>In the next TV image shown, Erikson was lying on his back on the ground, surrounded by worried-looking players. Ukraine\u2019s coaching staff were seen waving medical personnel onto the field.<\/p>\n<p>Within minutes, the Danish soccer federation sent a post on X saying Eriksen was \u201cconscious and, under the circumstances, doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dbulandshold\/status\/2063691377834176745?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">A fuller statement<\/a> by the federation came 10 minutes later, with Denmark team physician Morten Boesen saying: \u201cChristian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boesen said Eriksen \u201cwill now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital,\u201d Boesen added. \u201cBut Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The game was officially abandoned by the referee in the 79th minute \u2014 with Denmark leading 2-1 and there having been no further play after Eriksen\u2019s collapse \u2014 after the match official spoke to both coaches and sets of players.<\/p>\n<p>While Eriksen was being treated, there was initially a hush in the crowd before a chant of \u201cEriksen, Eriksen\u201d went around the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>After the match was called off, players from both teams formed a circle around the two coaches in one half of the field. The coaches were seen talking to the players. The teams then walked around the field to applause from the crowd, with some players visibly upset.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark great<\/p>\n<p>Eriksen, one of Denmark\u2019s greatest ever players, was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in the months following his face-forward collapse during Denmark\u2019s opening European Championship group game in 2021, against Finland in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>In that incident that sent soccer into shock, Eriksen was resuscitated during a lengthy period of on-field medical treatment led by Boesen and said he was later informed he was \u201cgone from this world for five minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eriksen <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-sports-soccer-london-arrests-2babe88271136511f31591f022ce37d4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resumed his professional playing career<\/a> 259 days later after getting a contract at Brentford in the Premier League.
