Hammarby’s sporting director, Mikael Hjelmberg, has played down alleged interest from Rangers in defender Hampus Skoglund.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old full-back, who plays in the Swedish Allsvenskan, was mentioned as a potential target for the Ibrox club.<\/p>\n

Rangers<\/a> are said to be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for James Tavernier<\/a>, with Dujon Sterling<\/a> struggling with injury since his arrival in Glasgow.<\/p>\n However, Mr Hjelmberg has directly addressed these links and stated he has heard nothing from the Scottish Premiership side.<\/p>\n He also expressed his desire to retain Skoglund for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n Mr Hjelmberg said: “Hampus is an important part of the team.<\/p>\n “We have a very good squad, and my goal is to try to keep that squad as intact as possible.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n “I have no idea how serious Rangers’ interest in him is because I haven’t heard a sound from them.<\/p>\n “The transfer window hasn’t opened, but of course, I have a fairly close dialogue with Hampus’ agent.<\/p>\n “But there haven’t been any concrete talks between us and any clubs yet.<\/p>\n “Previously, there had been concrete interest, but not this year.”<\/p>\n Rangers have already secured the services of Lawrence Shankland, and are reportedly keen on making a move for Casper Widell of Excelsior.<\/p>\n As the transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether any interest from Rangers in Skoglund will materialise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hammarby’s sporting director, Mikael Hjelmberg, has played down alleged interest from Rangers in defender Hampus Skoglund.
