First-time feature director Takuya Miyahara uses the premise to examine Japan\u2019s so-called Satori Generation \u2013 young people grappling with defeatism amid the country\u2019s economic decline and demographic challenges. The film probes how despair can drive individuals toward dangerous forms of denial and disengagement from reality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMiyahara previously directed short \u201cSuck,\u201d which competed at the 46th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Following his studies at ENBU Seminar\u2019s directing program, he honed his craft through the Sundance Institute\/NHK Award screenwriting initiative and attended specialized workshops in Los Angeles and New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe cast features Jingi Irie, known for \u201cTokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween \u2013 Destiny,\u201d as a withdrawn vacationer who grows suspicious of the resort\u2019s atmosphere. Makoto Tanaka of \u201cMichikusa\u201d portrays his partner, who becomes increasingly distant as dark revelations emerge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tProduction company Nothing New is presenting the project. The outfit\u2019s \u201cAnyMart\u201d selected for this year\u2019s Berlinale Forum section. Nothing New\u2019s recent slate includes \u201cHappy Eyescream\u201d and \u201cDiary of the Ghost,\u201d both of which screened in International Film Festival Rotterdam\u2019s Short &amp; Mid-length program this year, plus \u201cVoid,\u201d a Tiger Competition entry at Rotterdam\u2019s 53rd edition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWash Away\u201d is in post-production, with Finecut planning to screen early footage for buyers during the European Film Market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFinecut\u2019s Berlin lineup also includes \u201cThe Day She Returns,\u201d Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo\u2019s latest work, which is in this year\u2019s Berlinale Panorama section.
