{"id":103959,"date":"2026-06-09T19:53:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T19:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/103959\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T19:53:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T19:53:15","slug":"no-agriculture-minister-in-denmarks-new-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/103959\/","title":{"rendered":"No agriculture minister in Denmark&#8217;s new government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Denmark has become the only EU member state not to have an agriculture ministry. <\/p>\n<p>Unveiling her new cabinet, Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen has scrapped the position and replaced it with a newly created ministry for nature and animal welfare. <\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities for the portfolio will now be spread across five ministries. <\/p>\n<p>Food and food security will fall under business, while fisheries will be included in the environment ministry\u2019s brief with other elements divided out between the justice and transport ministries.<\/p>\n<p>Social democrat Christian Rabjerg Madsen takes up the new nature and animal welfare role, having previously served as minister for the interior and housing until 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes following months of negotiations since the ballot in March. <\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Pig election&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Ranked as sixth-largest pork exporter in the world, Denmark\u2019s famous pig sector was firmly in the spotlight throughout the campaign \u2013 which was dubbed \u201cthe pig election\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental impact and animal welfare are the principal issues and a commitment to create a commission to \u201ccomprehensively restructure\u201d the pig sector also feature in Denmark&#8217;s programme for government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Denmark has become the only EU member state not to have an agriculture ministry.
