President William Ruto on Tuesday held talks with Norwegian
\nmaritime industry leaders in Oslo as Kenya seeks to deepen cooperation with
\nNorway in the maritime and blue economy sectors.<\/p>\n
Ruto met\u00a0Norwegian Shipowners’ Association President,\u00a0Andreas Enger and other officials, where discussions focused on investment, skills
\ndevelopment, technology transfer and job creation within the maritime economy.<\/p>\n
The President said Kenya and Norway are exploring
\nopportunities for Kenyan maritime professionals and seafarers to work with
\nestablished Norwegian shipping companies, as well as new shipping routes to
\nstrengthen trade and supply chain resilience between the ports of Mombasa and
\nLamu and Norwegian ports.<\/p>\n
According to Ruto, the talks also covered shipbuilding,
\nfisheries, green shipping, ocean sustainability and decarbonisation, including
\nthe development of green trade corridors between the two countries.<\/p>\n
He welcomed a commitment by Wilhelmsen Ship Management and
\nother Norwegian shipping firms to employ 1,000 Kenyan seafarers by 2030,
\nincluding 120 by the end of this year.<\/p>\n

\nThe meeting comes a day after the President
\narrived in Oslo for a visit he said aimed at strengthening Kenya’s longstanding
\nbilateral ties with Norway and advancing cooperation in trade, investment,
\nclimate action and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
