Emirates airline<\/a> has no \u2060plans to cut capacity despite financial \u2060pressures caused by the Iran war<\/a>, president Tim Clark<\/a> said \u2060on Tuesday, as the carrier presses for Berlin traffic rights.<\/p>\n

The airline continues to route passengers through Dubai \u2060to destinations including India and Australia, taking precautions such \u200bas \u2060carrying \u2060extra fuel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We \u200chave no intention of cutting back, reducing,” Mr \u200bClark said in Berlin on Wednesday, ahead of the Berlin Air Show. He is not concerned about the extra cost, he added.<\/p>\n

\u2060Emirates will also be rolling out incentives aimed at winning back \u200bcustomers worried about the protracted Iran war, focusing on safety and reliable travel connections rather than \u2060lower fares, Mr Clark said. “I’d like to get through this Middle East crisis as the president of the airline.”<\/p>\n

Emirates \u2060can \u200bfly \u2060for \u2060up \u200bto \u2060five \u200chours \u200bbeyond \u200ba \u200cdestination \u2060just \u200bin \u200bcase \u200cdue \u2060to \u2060extra \u200bfuel, Mr Clark said, adding that there are alternative fuel sources online but they need to come on much quicker.<\/p>\n

Emirates is also seeking broader expansion in Germany<\/a>, saying most stakeholders would benefit from new long-haul capacity, while the airline introduces free Starlink services<\/a> to its aircraft.<\/p>\n

Mr Clark said that offering Starlink connectivity to passengers has had a significant effect on demand for Emirates flights and that the airline was \u200bputting the technology \u2060into \u200bas \u2060many \u200caircraft \u200bas possible. <\/p>\n

Emirates has long campaigned for greater access to Berlin. Mr Clark said the airline secured slots at the city’s airport but still lacked approval to operate. It \u200bhas regularly used the air show in the German capital \u200cas a platform \u2060to highlight its contribution \u200bto the local economy, dating back to \u200ban \u200corder for 32 more Airbus A380 that secured thousands of \u2060jobs in 2010.<\/p>\n

The Emirates boss also criticised Deutsche \u2060Lufthansa<\/a>, which has long claimed that Gulf carriers have an unfair regulatory advantage in Europe. Lufthansa should not rely on the German government to keep other airlines away from the country, he added. <\/p>\n

“It is a listed company and it needs to fight its \u200bown corner without going to the government and hiding behind its skirts,” Mr Clark said. <\/p>\n

Mr Clark further warned \u200bthat weaker airlines could fail if the Iran war drags on, \u2060with budget carriers most exposed.<\/p>\n

“If \u2060this crisis goes on for too long, there will \u200bbe \u2060some casualties, likely in \u200cthe budget airline sector first,” he said, echoing comments by \u200bInternational Air Transport Association’s director general Willie Walsh at the weekend.<\/p>\n
