HONOLULU (KHON2) \u2014 A local Lego group helped save play alongside Jason Momoa in a new video for World Play Day.<\/p>\n
The Hawai\u02bbi LEGO Users Group answered a call to action when the company reached out for help to cover a serious topic \u2013 the power of play.<\/p>\n
\u00a0New exhibit shares stories of Hawaii in large scale, 3D creations\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n On June 11, LEGO World Play Day is celebrated on the International Day of Play, an official day adopted by the United Nations to make play a FUN-damental right for children everywhere.<\/p>\n HILUG founder Christine Gal, with a mosaic featured in the video (Courtesy: HILUG).<\/p>\n Jason Momoa on set with the mosaic (Courtesy: HILUG).<\/p>\n HILUG founder Roy Gal with a LEGO ukulele featured in the video (Courtesy: HILUG).<\/p>\n The team had a tight deadline to bring the dream to life, with only two weeks to build before the shoot at the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n “I think everybody feels like this was an opportunity of a lifetime and really special. We had to work really hard to get this done in their timeframe,” Christine Gal, Hawai\u02bbi LEGO Users Group founder, said.<\/p>\n This is a special piece for HILUG members Yusuke and Anna Yamana, Ashton Simpkins, Charles Dunlap, Theo Schindler, Mark Huber, Chase Voelke and Christine and Roy Gal, who worked on the project.<\/p>\n “Everyone was so appreciative that it had worked out because you never know if it’s going to succeed or not. That felt almost magical to me to be involved in something like that,” Roy said.<\/p>\n The team helped to create the ukulele, cuckoo clock, brain, necklace, part of Jason Momoa’s mosaic, boardroom, and more seen in the video.<\/p>\n \u00a0Shaping the future of Hawai\u02bbi Island, one LEGO at a time\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Christine said, “I think it gives it a permanence to our Lego art because a lot of the time our pieces, they eventually fall apart or you don’t have room for them, but this will last forever.”<\/p>\n Roy and Christine founded the Hawai\u02bbi LEGO Users Group in 2012.<\/p>\n “Being able to have a creative outlet just keeps you happier and to be able to work with people of all ages and let them create and show them that that’s still there,” Christine said.<\/p>\n If you love LEGO, make sure to visit the Bishop Museum for the upcoming International Day of Play celebration<\/a> on June 6 and visit the Aloha Bricks ’26: Stories of Hawai\u02bbi exhibit, both in partnership with HILUG.<\/p>\n Watch the LEGO World Play Day video here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
