He told reporters that the war had been settled and said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen after an agreement was signed.

Iran responded with a more cautious message.

Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said large sections of a draft agreement had been completed but stressed that no final decision had been made by Iranian authorities. He said the document remained under review and rejected reports suggesting a signing date had already been agreed.

“We have reached near-final text in major sections,” Baghaei said. “The relevant authorities must review every detail of the text. As soon as we reach a final conclusion that serves the interests of the Iranian nation, it will be officially announced.”

Baghaei accused Washington of undermining negotiations through changing positions and military action during the diplomatic process. He said Iran entered talks in good faith but faced new demands and attacks while discussions continued.

“While they speak of diplomacy and negotiations, they simultaneously resort to force, illegal actions, and criminal behavior,” he said.

The spokesman added that Iran would not cross what he described as its national red lines and said pressure would not alter Tehran’s position.

Trump’s announcement marked a sharp change in tone. Earlier he had warned that Iran faced further military action and had raised the prospect of targeting additional Iranian oil infrastructure.

According to reports from US media, preparations have begun for a possible signing ceremony in Europe. Axios reported that aircraft carrying equipment for Vice President JD Vance had departed for Europe ahead of a potential event. Tehran has not confirmed those reports and continues to insist that approval has not yet been granted.

Financial markets reacted quickly. Major US stock indices rose after Trump signalled that military action had been halted. The S&P 500 recorded its largest daily gain since April, while the Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average also advanced. Markets in Asia followed with gains, including a sharp rise in South Korea’s Kospi index.

Oil prices fell after investors assessed the reduced risk of further disruption in the Gulf.

The future of the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the central issues in negotiations.

Iran previously announced restrictions on shipping after attacks on its infrastructure and commercial vessels. Baghaei said the United States bore responsibility for instability in the waterway and accused Washington of creating unsafe conditions through military operations.

Questions also remain over the scope of any future agreement.

According to information published by Iran’s Mehr News Agency and attributed to a source close to the negotiating team, a draft memorandum under discussion includes provisions covering a ceasefire, sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian funds, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations over nuclear issues. The report also suggested that discussions related to Iran’s missile programme and regional allies had been removed from the agenda. Neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly confirmed those details.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel was not a party to the proposed understanding between Washington and Tehran. Israeli officials have continued to demand restrictions on Iran’s nuclear activities and regional influence.

Israel also continued its military aggression in Lebanon despite diplomatic progress elsewhere.

Israeli forces carried out strikes in southern Lebanon, including attacks in areas around Marjayoun, Nabatieh and Tyre. Lebanese authorities reported casualties and damage from the operations. The Israeli military said it had struck hundreds of Hezbollah targets during the past week and claimed dozens of fighters had been killed.

The United Nations reported that two peacekeepers serving with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon were injured when a logistics convoy came under attack. UN officials said an investigation had been launched.

Hezbollah officials maintained that developments between Tehran and Washington would affect Lebanon. Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said any agreement involving Iran would include Lebanon, while Lebanese government officials continued to insist that national decisions would remain in Beirut’s hands.

HT

The United States and Iran moved closer to a deal aimed at ending months of conflict after US…

[87
4416,1157,184,54174,158,113,2271,651,14413,4174,3654,4581,17961,76
post-106570","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-helsinki","tag-ceasefire","tag-diplomacy","tag-donald-trump","tag-esmaeil-baghaei","tag-finland","tag-helsinki","tag-iran","tag-jd-vance","tag-lebanon","tag-middle-east","tag-negotiations","tag-sanctions","tag-strait-of-hormuz","tag-united-states
["GET
