He said preparations were under way for an electronic signing followed by technical discussions next week.

Iranian officials struck a more cautious tone. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said a memorandum of understanding would not be signed on Sunday, although he did not rule out an agreement being reached in the coming days.

The proposed deal has emerged after months of conflict that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February. The war disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, triggered retaliatory attacks across several countries in the region and raised concerns over global energy supplies.

According to reporting by the BBC, the draft framework would begin with a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, followed by a 60-day negotiating period covering unresolved issues including Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions relief. US officials said economic concessions would be linked to Iranian compliance with any future commitments.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said an agreement had “never been closer” but stressed that final approval remained necessary. Speaking on Iranian state television, he said the proposed memorandum would help end hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

The status of Lebanon remains one of the most contested elements of the negotiations.

While Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that any agreement should include an end to fighting in Lebanon, Israeli officials have signalled that military operations will continue.

On Saturday, Israeli forces carried out strikes across several areas of southern Lebanon, affecting around 20 towns and villages.

Lebanese state media reported that at least one person was killed in the Tyre district. Additional strikes were reported in Nabatieh, Jezzine and other areas of the south.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli operations since early March have killed 3,756 people and wounded more than 11,600 others.

The Israeli military said it had struck more than 70 Hezbollah targets during the previous 24 hours, including launch sites and other infrastructure.

The United Nations also reported extensive Israeli military activity near the border. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said peacekeepers had observed large-scale troop movements, engineering works and sustained air operations in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the country faced a “fateful choice” between strengthening state authority and remaining divided by armed groups.

Political debate inside Lebanon has intensified in recent weeks as officials seek ways to end the conflict while addressing the future role of Hezbollah.

Near the Strait of Hormuz, the US military said it had intercepted several Iranian drones in recent days and claimed that commercial shipping remained open.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile near the coast of Oman. The vessel continued its voyage and no injuries or environmental damage were reported.

US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that an agreement is within reach, but criticised reports claiming details of the negotiations had been leaked. He said public accounts circulating in Iranian media did not reflect the terms under discussion.

HT

Diplomatic efforts to end more than three months of illegal war against Iran from the United States and…

[87
18355,184,158,11936,113,54465,54464,34303,17962,34098,17961,54463
post-107255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-helsinki","tag-abbas-araghchi","tag-donald-trump","tag-finland","tag-geneva-talks","tag-helsinki","tag-iran-negotiations","tag-israel-lebanon","tag-lebanon-strikes","tag-middle-east-conflict","tag-pakistan-mediation","tag-strait-of-hormuz","tag-us-iran-deal
["GET
