Alpha Housing has secured agreement a \u00a320 million loan from Danske Bank<\/a> to help build 240 new social homes<\/a> across the north over the next five years.<\/p>\n

The social housing provider said the finance deal will help accelerate its development programme, increasing its housing stock by around 25%.<\/p>\n

The new homes will include a mix of general needs housing and homes for people over 55, delivered through a range of apartments and bungalows.<\/p>\n

As part of the agreement, Alpha Housing and Danske Bank have set a number of environmental, social and governance (ESG)<\/a> targets, linking the cost of funding directly to how the housing association performs against sustainability<\/a> measures.<\/p>\n

These include a commitment to deliver four biodiversity initiatives each year, such as hedge planting and building wildlife ponds, across both new and existing housing schemes. <\/p>\n

Danske Bank said it\u2019s the first time it has included specific biodiversity targets in a social housing funding package.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe place huge importance on sustainability and biodiversity across our schemes, and this significant sustainability\u2011linked loan from Danske Bank allows us to embed clear biodiversity commitments as we grow,\u201d said Alpha Housing\u2019s chief executive, Cameron Watt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have ambitious plans to grow our portfolio and this \u00a320m funding facility and Danske Bank\u2019s support will go a long way to help us achieve our goal of 240 sustainable new homes in the next five years.\u201d<\/p>\n
