The discoveries of G\u00f6beklitepe and Ta\u015f Tepeler, which have
\nreshaped what is known about human history, have now met art and
\nhistory enthusiasts in Berlin. The exhibition, featuring 89
\nartefacts and four replicas selected from the \u015eanl\u0131urfa Museum,
\nattracted great interest from its very first day.<\/p>\n
Titled \u201cThe Discovery of Society: G\u00f6beklitepe, Ta\u015f Tepeler and
\nLife 12,000 Years Ago,\u201d the exhibition was prepared in cooperation
\nwith T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the
\nVorderasiatisches Museum of the Berlin State Museums. It was
\ninaugurated at a ceremony held at the James Simon Gallery in the
\nGerman capital. The opening ceremony was attended by T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s
\nMinister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and Germany\u2019s
\nMinister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer.<\/p>\n
In his opening remarks, Minister Ersoy stated that T\u00fcrkiye has
\nevolved toward a new strategy in cultural diplomacy. \u201cWe have
\nevolved toward a new strategy in cultural diplomacy. We no longer
\nonly discover. We protect what we discover. At the same time, we
\nshare all of this with the world. When you share it with the world,
\nit becomes more meaningful,\u201d he said. Emphasizing that T\u00fcrkiye is
\nnow recognized as the center of the Neolithic Age, Ersoy described
\nthe Ta\u015f Tepeler Project as one of the largest projects carried out
\nthrough international partnerships.<\/p>\n
Ersoy noted that a previous exhibition held in Rome, Italy,
\nattracted more than 6 million visitors. \u201cI believe we will break
\nrecords here as well with more than 6 million visitors. But it will
\nnot be limited to Berlin. We are receiving invitations from many
\ncountries around the world,\u201d he said. He also revealed that a
\nprotocol had been signed with the Colosseum in Rome on December 11
\nand added, \u201cIf we can complete the preparations by June this year,
\nwe plan to hold the Troy exhibition at the Colosseum in Rome.\u201d
\nErsoy stated that 44 of the 89 artefacts brought to Berlin are
\nnewly discovered items and that they aim to highlight new finds at
\nevery excavation site.<\/p>\n
Germany\u2019s Minister of State for Culture, Wolfram Weimer,
\ndescribed G\u00f6beklitepe as a global sensation. \u201cThis is truly a
\nworldwide sensation. The world knows and admires the Stonehenge
\nmonuments. But what we see here is 7,000 years older than that,\u201d he
\nsaid. Expressing confidence that the exhibition would draw
\nsignificant interest in Germany, Weimer added, \u201cWe will see a large
\nnumber of visitors here. This is also an indication of how well
\nTurkish-German cooperation in archaeology has worked for 150
\nyears.\u201d He thanked the Turkish side for its contribution to the
\nexhibition and said, \u201cIt is a wonderful day for Turks and Germans
\nto stand together at the cradle of humanity and admire the
\nartefacts displayed here.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u015eanl\u0131urfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kas\u0131m G\u00fclp\u0131nar,
\nwho also attended the opening, expressed his satisfaction with the
\norganization and thanked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
\n\u201cPromoting \u015eanl\u0131urfa is extremely important for us. When we possess
\nsuch a treasure, it is our primary duty to introduce it to the
\nworld. Even so far, known history has already changed. The
\npossibility of going even further back is quite high. We have all
\nthe material in our hands. Now we want to organize and present it
\nin the best possible way. \u015eanl\u0131urfa more than deserves to be a
