{"id":109877,"date":"2026-06-17T09:07:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T09:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/109877\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T09:07:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T09:07:09","slug":"norways-crown-princess-mette-marit-undergoes-successful-lung-transplant-in-oslo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/109877\/","title":{"rendered":"Norway\u2019s Crown Princess Mette-Marit undergoes successful lung transplant in Oslo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a data-ylk=\"slk:Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/norway-mette-marit-lung-transplant-b2990296.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway<\/a> has successfully undergone a lung transplant at an Oslo hospital, the country&#8217;s royal house confirmed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old royal was diagnosed in 2018 with <a data-ylk=\"slk:pulmonary fibrosis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/change-patients-experts-andrew-wilson-university-of-east-anglia-b2541922.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">pulmonary fibrosis<\/a>, a progressive and incurable disease that causes significant damage and scarring to lung tissue, leading to severe breathing difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, it was announced that she had been placed on a lung transplant list.<\/p>\n<p>The procedure took place at Rikshospitalet in Oslo, and Are Holm, the head of the hospital&#8217;s pulmonary department, said: &#8220;We are very pleased that everything has gone well so far.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Like other transplant recipients, she will remain in the hospital for &#8220;several weeks&#8221;, Dr Holm said.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (Reuters)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_the_independent_us_877\/aa4a6fc98a8d913187afc453c7ddf06e.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (Reuters)<\/p>\n<p>He added that &#8220;this is standard procedure to adjust medications, manage any complications and conduct rehabilitation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The royal house said that Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the Norwegian throne, will &#8220;adjust his schedule&#8221; to be with his wife during that period.<\/p>\n<p>It said that it plans its next update on her health when she is discharged from the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Mette-Marit&#8217;s condition worsened over recent months, coinciding with a challenging period for her on other fronts.<\/p>\n<p>Her eldest son, Marius Borg H\u00f8iby, was <a data-ylk=\"slk:sentenced to four years in prison;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/norway-marius-borg-hoiby-guilty-b2995698.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">sentenced to four years in prison<\/a> on Monday after being convicted of two counts of rape, which he denied, among other offenses.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00f8iby&#8217;s lawyers said that he will appeal convictions for rape and domestic abuse.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00f8iby is Mette-Marit&#8217;s son from a previous relationship son and has no royal titles or official duties.
