June 11 (Reuters) – Novo Nordisk said on Thursday it has identified a security incident in which certain information, including \u200cpatient data from some clinical trials, was copied externally without \u200cauthorization from its internal IT systems.<\/p>\n
The company, maker of the blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy, \u200bsaid it has launched a probe with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts and is in contact with the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
“The incident affected a limited amount of information related to patients participating in some \u200cof our clinical trials,” \u2060Novo said in its statement, without disclosing what type of trials.<\/p>\n
The potential categories of personal data affected may \u2060include patient ID, year of birth, sex and health or immunogenicity data among others, it added.Novo did not provide further details when contacted \u200bby Reuters.<\/p>\n
In \u200bits statement, Novo said the information \u200bis not directly linked to \u200cany patients by name or other direct identifiers, and it does not consider the incident to enable any third party to identify participants in its clinical trials.<\/p>\n
Knowledge of patient identity would require access to further information, which was not part of the incident, the \u200ccompany added.<\/p>\n
The drugmaker said it does not \u200bview the incident as posing any \u200bimmediate risks to patients, but \u200badvised that they report any unusual occurrences they \u200cbelieve could be linked to the \u200bincident.<\/p>\n
The company has \u200btemporarily taken certain internal IT systems offline, and is working to bring the affected systems back online in a controlled and \u200bsafe manner.<\/p>\n
The company’s \u200ccore business operations are not impacted and remain up and \u200brunning, it added.<\/p>\n
