Elsewhere in Finland, scattered rain and thunderstorm showers are forecast during the day.

Laine said strong wind gusts were possible in Lapland on Sunday as the low-pressure system strengthens. Thunderstorms further south could also produce gusts capable of bringing down trees.

Foreca meteorologist Markus Mäntykannas reported that temperatures in parts of southern Sweden could approach 30°C on Saturday while a cold front advances from the west. The collision between the hot and cooler air masses is expected to trigger severe weather across parts of Scandinavia before the system weakens and moves east towards Finland.

According to the Foreca forecast, the thunderstorm zone is expected to reach western Finland around midnight on Saturday before spreading across the country overnight into Sunday. Although the storms are forecast to lose strength before arriving in Finland, forecasters still see a risk of heavy downpours, lightning and strong wind gusts.

The highest probability of thunderstorms and intense rainfall is expected during the early hours of Sunday in North Ostrobothnia and southern Lapland. The system is then forecast to move into southern and eastern Finland during the morning.

HT

Finland’s Midsummer weekend has brought warm temperatures and dry conditions across much of the country, but forecasters say…

[87
158,56711,5020,13633,54437,113,52612,56713,56712,56714
post-113069","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-helsinki","tag-finland","tag-finland-thunderstorms","tag-finland-weather","tag-finnish-meteorological-institute","tag-heavy-rain","tag-helsinki","tag-midsummer-weather","tag-scandinavia-storms","tag-sunday-storm-risk","tag-wind-gusts
["GET
