According to the Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office, 41-year-old Lisa Catarino was employed by the district when the investigation began. <\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/nxslink.news10.com\/join\/6sd\/signup\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tGet the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox!\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the sheriff\u2019s office, Catarino was allegedly having inappropriate conversations with a 17-year-old student with disabilities, while working as an aide in the high school.  <\/p>\n<p>Deputies said the school district notified them immediately after they were made aware of the reported communication between the two. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon receiving this information, district administration immediately initiated an investigation in cooperation with local law enforcement, notified the student\u2019s parent\/guardian, and took immediate action to address the matter,\u201d school officials said. <\/p>\n<p>Deputies charged Catarino with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. <\/p>\n<p>According to the district, she has since resigned from her position and is no longer employed at the district. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe district is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and will continue to follow all appropriate legal and administrative procedures as the investigation moves forward,\u201d school officials wrote. \u201cWhile we cannot comment further, we remain deeply committed to maintaining a safe, secure learning environment for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deputies said Catarino is scheduled to reappear in the Amsterdam Town Court for later proceedings. <\/p>\n<p>Read the latest from NEWS10:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NEWS10<\/a> is the Capital Region\u2019s local news leader!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"AMSTERDAM, N.Y.
