Hurtigruten is advancing its expansion to new destinations, this week formally announcing three new itineraries<\/a> to bolster its two-year-young Signature voyages. The collection includes Signature departures centred around Western Norway\u2019s fjords and the Northern Lights, and a new itinerary operating into and out of the Danish capital for the first time.<\/p>\n

The Norwegian cruise company\u2019s Signature sailings differ from its 130+ year-old Classic coastal sailings (between Bergen and Kirkenes, and back) by offering less port calls but longer duration stops, developed to appeal to the traditional cruise traveller.<\/p>\n

The new \u2018Limited Collection\u2019 voyages will operate between April 2027 and May 2028 aboard MS Trollfjord, accessing new ports for Hurtigruten, such as Rosendal, Skjolden and Eidfjord. The itineraries include:<\/p>\n

Last month, Hurtigruten CEO Hedda Felin, previewed the new Signature departures to its Nordic Alliance travel agency members in Australia and New Zealand first. She said Hurtigruten was responding to guest feedback for more fjords and Arctic options, and a strong desire to include more of Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see this obsession\u00a0for\u00a0fjords and the Arctic.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0visit the most beautiful fjords on the western side of Norway,\u201d she said of the Inner Fjords Explorer that will include a new fjord every day of the voyage.<\/p>\n

Damian Perry, Hurtigruten\u2019s Managing Director APAC said he expects the new Arctic Line from Copenhagen would be popular with travellers from the Australasia region, given the air accessibility of the Danish capital. He said Hurtigruten was busy developing land packages and touring in Scandinavia to complement the new Signature itinerary, which will debut in December 2027.<\/p>\n

Perry said the Arctic Circle Explorer would capitalise on huge demand for travellers wanting to explore the Arctic Circle, offering dog sledding, snowmobiling and other winter activities.<\/p>\n

Speaking in greater depth about the Signature \u2018Limited Collection\u2019 with LATTE, Felin said the new options have been developed to offer new and past guests something new.<\/p>\n

She referred to the program as our \u201cdream itineraries\u201d, showcasing not only Mother Nature in all her Nordic-glory, but Hurtigruten\u2019s suppliers in the region. Partners who grow apples for cider and wine, for example. While the new Arctic itinerary into and out of Troms\u00f8 will cater for the guest who can\u2019t get enough of northern Norway.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the experts of Norway and now we can expand the program to\u00a0tailor-made cruises\u00a0to the fjords, Northern Lights, and Scandinavia,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuests\u00a0want more\u00a0fjords,\u00a0they want more of northern Norway. They are eager to go up, and when they are\u00a0there\u00a0they want to linger longer.\u00a0And\u00a0to add\u00a0Scandinavia\u00a0to our program is\u00a0very exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, Hurtigruten deploys MS\u00a0Trollfjord\u00a0for its Signature voyages between Oslo and North Cape (and to Svalbard), sailing in parallel with the seven other ships on the Classic coastal route.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can manage\u00a0the\u00a0capacity. Ideally, I would have more ships, but\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0another discussion with my\u00a0owners,\u201d\u00a0she quipped. \u201cThis is a way for us\u00a0to fill our ships.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the\u00a0future\u00a0that could mean a separate ship.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0piloting the program, seeing how the market will respond, giving us more accessibility to more partners and guests who want to see more Northern and or more Western Norway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hurtigruten already operates exclusive departures from Hamburg for the German market (which are also English-speaking), that are \u201call full,\u201d she said. \u201c\u201cIt shows that home-porting from other destinations can be a success,\u201d hence the new sailings from the Danish capital.\u00a0\u201cWe see that\u00a0neighbouring\u00a0countries are loving that we sail out from Hamburg, because\u00a0its\u00a0so beautiful and it may be easier to get to than Bergen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGuests can now start in Bergen, in Oslo, from Hamburg and soon from Copenhagen.\u201d<\/p>\n

And because the Signature route is not regulated under the state contract, Hurtigruten has full flexibility to customise those itineraries \u201cas we desire,\u201d Felin adds, which could suggest even more are on the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis expansion provides a sense of what we can be in the future,\u201d Felin told LATTE.<\/p>\n
