{"id":114340,"date":"2026-06-23T04:37:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T04:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/114340\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T04:37:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T04:37:14","slug":"plans-for-controversial-addiction-recovery-center-in-new-berlin-move-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/114340\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans for controversial addiction recovery center in New Berlin move forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NEW BERLIN, Wis. \u2014 Plans to build an addiction recovery center in New Berlin can move forward after the project endured months of dispute in the community. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After keeping their decision secret for weeks, the city\u2019s Board of Appeals rejected a zoning challenge to the <a href=\"https:\/\/milmission.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee Rescue Mission<\/a> project on Monday. The 2-2 vote came after the board deliberated in closed session on June 2, but decided not to publicly announce their decision until today. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newberlincu.com\/home\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Berlin Citizens United<\/a> had appealed the city Plan Commission\u2019s decision to categorize the recovery center as a church under zoning code. They argued it does not qualify as a church and requires different zoning, a process which would further delay the project from moving forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The drug and alcohol recovery facility will house more than 100 men at a time in a 57,000 square-foot building near I-43 and Moorland Road.
