The move comes at a pivotal moment: the explorer carries a market capitalisation of roughly $1.5 billion despite generating virtually no revenue and burning through cash at a rapid pace.

The drilling infrastructure — including accommodation and operational facilities — is now in place, and the campaign is targeting mineralised zones flagged as priority areas by earlier studies. Critical Metals aims to sharpen its geological models, advance mine planning, and expand the resource base enough to attract external financing and launch bankable feasibility studies.

Consolidation Adds Clarity

The company now holds 92.5% of Tanbreez, up sharply from the 42% stake it previously owned. That majority position simplifies future funding discussions, as the project’s ownership structure is no longer fragmented. Pro-forma financial data released on June 22 show a cash inflow of roughly A$357 million at European Lithium, a key entity within the group’s structure. The group itself generates no revenue — all activities remain focused on project development.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Critical Metals?

Tanbreez’s geological makeup provides a competitive edge in a market dominated by China. Roughly 27% of the deposit consists of heavy rare earths, a category far rarer and more sought-after by industries producing magnets, wind turbines, and electric motors. This composition could prove decisive in off-take negotiations, as Western buyers scramble to secure independent supply chains.

Financial Reality Bites

The company’s annual revenue sits below $1 million, while losses reached around $153 million, all of it poured into expensive project development. The price-to-book ratio of 10.4 far exceeds the industry average of 3, highlighting the extreme expectations baked into the stock. Direct peers trade at noticeably lower multiples.

On June 23, the shares stood at roughly €0.099, down about 4.4% on the day. Over the preceding 90 days, however, the stock still showed a gain of nearly 23%. The post-drill decline is typical for exploration plays: the market tends to wait for first assay results before confirming geological models.

Financing Remains the Key Risk

Several offtake agreements are already in place, and the U.S. Export-Import Bank has signalled initial interest in financing. Analysts see an average price target of $17.00 per share, implying a material upside from current levels around $10.15. To close that gap, management must secure the capital needed to transition from exploration to production. Should the fundraising effort fail, the current billion-dollar valuation could face a severe reality check.

Ad

Critical Metals Stock: New Analysis – 23 June

Fresh Critical Metals information released.
