A Trump-appointed official suggested that if the United States were to take over Greenland, it could bring back the all-you-can-eat shrimp offer at Red Lobster.<\/a><\/p>\n Tom Dans, who is currently the chairman of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission and served at the Treasury Department during President Donald Trump\u2019s first term,\u00a0told The New Yorker<\/a> back in December that taking Greenland would essentially give the U.S. direct access to a rich supply of seafood.<\/p>\n What they’re saying:<\/p>\n “My view is that the United States could take all the seafood Greenland could produce, and cut out the middleman, and keep it from China\u2014and you could bring back all-you-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster.”<\/p>\n The backstory:<\/p>\n Though it is now back for a limited time,<\/a> Red Lobster initially discontinued its Endless Shrimp offering in 2024 after it was widely cited as a factor in the company\u2019s huge financial loss ahead of its bankruptcy filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Endless Shrimp menu item accounted for $11 million of the company\u2019s $76 million net loss in 2023, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n The chain ended up shutting down dozens of locations in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n The deal was reinstated in April 2026, though the cost may vary by location.\u00a0<\/p>\n One location told\u00a0FOX Business<\/a> that they would be charging $24.99, nearly $5 more than it cost in 2024. Meanwhile,\u00a0USA Today<\/a> reported other locations could be charging $29.99.<\/p>\n The company did not say when the promotion would expire.<\/p>\n Greenland is not for sale Denmark\u2019s prime minister insisted that her country can\u2019t negotiate on its sovereignty on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump said he agreed on a “framework of a future deal” on Arctic security with the head of NATO.<\/p>\n Big picture view:<\/p>\n Trump and his administration have pushed the idea of taking over Greenland, citing national security concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n The president has stated that the U.S. needed to “take Greenland,” otherwise Russia or China would.<\/p>\n The White House considered a range of options, including military force, to acquire the vast Arctic island.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Trump said he\u2019d rather “make a deal” for the territory, “but one way or the other, we\u2019re going to have Greenland.”<\/p>\n The other side:<\/p>\n Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen made it clear on Monday that the Greenlandic people continue to insist on self-determination.<\/p>\n “The Greenlandic people are not for sale.
