What they decide will depend on the different risk profiles and patterns of use of each platform \u2014 as well as how each company defends itself.<\/p>\n<p>That likely means it will take a while for TikTok to make any change to its systems, as the platform reviews the evidence and tries to negotiate a solution with the regulator.<\/p>\n<p>In another, simpler DSA enforcement case, it took the Commission more than a year after issuing preliminary findings to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-slaps-e120m-fine-on-x-straining-ties-with-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declare<\/a> Elon Musk\u2019s X was not compliant with its obligations on transparency.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok may pursue a series of changes and may push the Commission to adopt a lighter regulatory approach. The video-sharing giant\u00a0likely won\u2019t\u00a0\u201cget it right\u201d the first time,\u00a0said EDRi\u2019s Penfrat,\u00a0and it may take a few\u00a0tries to\u00a0satisfy Brussels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could be anything from changing default settings, to outright prohibiting a specific design feature, or requiring more user control,\u201d said Peter Chapman, a governance researcher and lawyer who is associate director at the Knight-Georgetown Institute.<\/p>\n<p>He expects the changes could be different for each platform \u2014 as while the findings show the Commission\u2019s thinking, interventions must be targeted depending on how design features are used.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMultiple platforms use similar design features\u201d\u00a0but they serve different purposes and carry different risks, said Chapman, pointing to the example of notifications that try to draw you back in.
