{"id":11577,"date":"2026-02-13T08:12:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T08:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/11577\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T08:12:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T08:12:13","slug":"systra-wins-new-contract-for-copenhagen-metro-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/11577\/","title":{"rendered":"Systra wins new contract for Copenhagen metro extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railwaypro.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Metroselskabet.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-136379 size-mh-magazine-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Metroselskabet-678x381.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"678\" height=\"381\"  \/><\/a>Systra has been awarded a new contract for the extension of Copenhagen\u2019s M4 metro line, strengthening its role as a long-term partner to operator Metroselskabet.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s Danish division will provide land and regulatory advice for the new extension to the north of the capital, in collaboration with local firm Vanovis.<\/p>\n<p>M4 extension to the north<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railwaypro.com\/wp\/copenhagen-metro-selects-designers-for-m4-extension\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Line M4<\/a>, which was extended south in June 2024, will now be extended to serve new residential areas developed in a former port area.<\/p>\n<p>The new section, built on a 1.6 km viaduct, will include two stations \u2013 Ydre Nordhavn \u2013 Levantkaj and Nords\u00f8 Plads \u2013 and is scheduled to open in 2030.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that 80% of the area\u2019s residents will have a metro station less than 600 meters away, and the approximately 40,000 residents of the new neighborhoods will benefit from reduced travel times:<\/p>\n<p>approximately 7 minutes to the city center;<br \/>\napproximately 14 minutes to Central Station;<br \/>\napproximately 27 minutes to the international airport.<\/p>\n<p>Ambitious climate goal<\/p>\n<p>The Danish authorities aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the new extension by 50% compared to the existing sections of the line.<\/p>\n<p>A significant part of the CO\u2082 savings would be achieved as early as the design phase, through the use of more sustainable materials and construction methods.<\/p>\n<p>Once operational, the extension could reduce car traffic in the areas served by approximately 14%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to continue our collaboration with Metroselskabet and to contribute, alongside Vanovis, to the development of sustainable solutions for public infrastructure in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railwaypro.com\/wp\/consortium-selected-for-copenhagen-automated-s-bahn-trains\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Copenhagen<\/a>,\u201d said Thomas Vesterholm, Director of Rail &amp; Metro at Systra Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>A long-term partnership<\/p>\n<p>The M4 extension is part of a long-standing collaboration between Systra and Metroselskabet. The company was involved in the design of the M4 line, which will be inaugurated between 2020 and 2024, as well as in the development of the M3 Cityringen line, which opened in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Cityringen is a fully automated circular line, 15.5 km long with 17 underground stations, which forms a ring around the city center and is interconnected with the regional rail network and other automated metro lines.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railwaypro.com\/wp\/systra-returns-to-taiwans-high-speed-rail-market\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"
