Among the finds was a grave box containing pearls, gold thread, scissors, and a woman’s bones, an assembly similar to one found in a nearby village in the early 2000s. In 2024, an archaeology student uncovered a collection of 9th-century silver bracelets whose design connected them with regions of modern-day Russia and Ukraine.

“Viking Age cities did not arise alone—and Søften and Lisbjerg are very clear examples of this,” historian Kasper Andersen said in a statement. “Goods and resources were brought from the surrounding countryside, which were traded in the cities and thus entered the extensive international network of the Viking Age.”

A Viking Age settlement specializing in textiles and craft products has been excavated in Søften, a town five…

[2
57971,5469,32278,38621,27,26,57969,610,57973,57968,57977,57975,57559,57966,57976,57967,57974,57970,57972
post-116399","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-denmark","tag-aarhus-viking-history","tag-archaeology","tag-artnet-news","tag-danish-archaeology","tag-danmark","tag-denmark","tag-flax-processing","tag-harald-bluetooth","tag-industrial-craft","tag-loom-weights","tag-old-norse-aros","tag-sailcloth-manufacturing","tag-textile-production","tag-viking-age-soften","tag-viking-burial-site","tag-viking-pit-houses","tag-viking-silver-bracelets","tag-viking-trade-networks","tag-viking-workshop-huts
["GET
