Kenya and Denmark are moving closer to sealing a new development cooperation partnership.<\/p>\n

Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing\u2019oei has said the two sides are
\nnearing conclusion of a new cooperation framework, which will succeed the
\n2021-25 blueprint.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe renewed partnership featured prominently during a
\nmeeting between PS Sing’oei and Danish Ambassador to Kenya Stephan Sch\u00f8nemann.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe two reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between
\nKenya and Denmark while exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in
\nsectors viewed as critical to Kenya’s long-term development agenda.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe framework is expected to deepen collaboration in green
\ngrowth, digital innovation, maritime security and the blue economy.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe move further demonstrates Nairobi’s strategy of
\nstrengthening ties with European partners around sustainable development and
\neconomic transformation.<\/p>\n


\n
\nSing’oei also congratulated Denmark following the
\nre-election of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, expressing confidence that her
\ncoalition government would continue working closely with Kenya in advancing
\nshared priorities.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cHeld a productive meeting with Stephan Sch\u00f8nemann,
\nAmbassador of Denmark to Kenya, during which we affirmed the strong relations
\nbetween our two countries and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation.<\/p>\n


\n
\n\u201cWe also look forward to the conclusion of a new
\nKenya-Denmark development cooperation partnership,\u201d Korir said, signalling that
\nnegotiations on the next framework are at an advanced stage.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe anticipated agreement comes as Kenya increasingly shifts
\nits diplomatic engagements from traditional aid-based relationships towards
\npartnerships centred on investment, technology transfer, climate action and
\nsustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n


\n
\nGreen growth has become a defining pillar of President
\nWilliam Ruto’s foreign policy, with Nairobi actively seeking international
\npartners to support renewable energy, climate adaptation, green
\nindustrialisation and carbon markets.<\/p>\n


\n
\nDenmark, widely recognised as a global leader in renewable
\nenergy technologies, sustainable urban development and climate solutions, is
\nviewed as a strategic partner in helping Kenya transition to a low-carbon
\neconomy.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe emphasis on digital innovation also aligns with the
\ngovernment’s Digital Superhighway programme, which seeks to expand internet
\nconnectivity, digitise public services and create technology-driven employment
\nopportunities for young people.<\/p>\n


\n
\nBeyond climate and technology, the two countries are
\nexpected to deepen collaboration in the blue economy and maritime security,
\nareas that have gained prominence as Kenya seeks to unlock the economic
\npotential of its Indian Ocean coastline.<\/p>\n


\n
\nMaritime cooperation is increasingly becoming an important
\ncomponent of Kenya’s international partnerships as the country positions itself
\nas a regional logistics and trade hub anchored on the Port of Mombasa and the
\nwider western Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n

\nKenya successfully hosted the historic 11th Our Ocean
\nConference in Mombasa from\u00a0June 16\u00a0to 18, marking the first time the
\nglobal conference was held on African soil.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThemed “Our Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future,” it
\nbrought together over 5,000 delegates to drive marine conservation and the
\nsustainable blue economy.<\/p>\n


\n
\nKenya\u2019s cooperation with Denmark, whose economy has a long
\ntradition in global shipping and maritime services, presents opportunities to
\nstrengthen sustainable maritime governance, port efficiency and ocean resource
\nmanagement.<\/p>\n


\n
\nThe renewed engagement also reflects a broader evolution in
\nKenya’s relations with Nordic countries, which have increasingly focused their
\nsupport on climate resilience, innovation, private sector development and green
\ninvestments rather than conventional development assistance.<\/p>\n


\n
\nDenmark has for decades maintained close development ties
\nwith Kenya, supporting programmes in governance, sustainable agriculture,
\nrefugee assistance, health and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n


\n
\nIn recent years, however, both governments have sought to
\nbroaden the relationship to include trade, investment and knowledge exchange in
\nsectors expected to drive future economic growth.<\/p>\n


\n
\nIn. February this year, Kenya appointed its first resident
\nambassador to its new diplomatic mission in Copenhagen as part of a broader
\ndiplomatic expansion.<\/p>\n
