Celtic have reportedly declared their interest in Hertha Berlin shot-stopper Tjark Ernst.<\/p>\n

But the Parkhead giants are said to be facing competition from Dutch powerhouses Ajax to try and sign the shot-stopper.<\/p>\n

Martin O’Neill<\/a>‘s side are desperate to bolster their ranks between the posts this summer following the retirement of Kasper Schmeichel, with Viljami Sinisalo <\/a>and Ross Doohan currently the only senior keepers on their books.<\/p>\n

They have already been linked with a move for Wolfsberger’s Nikolas Polster,<\/a> who has made it very clear that he wants a transfer away from the Austrian club ahead of the new season amid a wealth of interest in his services.<\/p>\n

And German outlet Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung<\/a> claim that they are very keen on former Germany U21 international Ernst.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old joined 2. Bundesliga side Hertha from VFL Bochum four years ago and missed just one league game last season as his team finished seventh in the German second tier.<\/p>\n

They add that fellow 2. Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have been locked in talks with Hertha over a potential deal for the player, while Michel Sanchez’s Ajax are also keeping tabs on the situation.<\/p>\n
