{"id":119960,"date":"2026-07-01T06:41:33","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T06:41:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/119960\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T06:41:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T06:41:33","slug":"guernsey-and-jersey-split-widens-on-ferry-deals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/119960\/","title":{"rendered":"Guernsey and Jersey split widens on ferry deals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The deal is five years longer than Guernsey\u2019s contract with Brittany Ferries, making any hope of working together in the future even dimmer.<\/p>\n<p>No details have emerged yet about any break clauses in the Jersey deal.<\/p>\n<p>Jersey\u2019s government put pen to paper on New Year\u2019s Eve on the contract which will run from March.<\/p>\n<p>DFDS has yet to confirm details of its timetable, having earlier promised to do so before the end of last year.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year contract for passenger and freight will include routes from Jersey to Poole, Portsmouth and St Malo.<\/p>\n<p>Jersey\u2019s Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted we have signed a contract with DFDS which will enable us to provide the best possible ferry services for Islanders for the next 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The States of Jersey said DFDS had committed to \u201cgreater frequency\u201d of ferries to the UK and France \u201cin peak periods\u201d and investing in three new ferries by 2032.<\/p>\n<p>Guernsey signed its 15-year contract with Brittany on 4 December, which as well as the break clause also has an option for a five-year extension. <\/p>\n<p>Last month, Brittany Ferries won the opening stages of legal action against Jersey over how it handled the initial joint tender process and the follow up contract bids.<\/p>\n<p>A failure to fully tell the company why its bid failed the joint process as well as arguments about apparent bias will be taken forward in a judicial review against Jersey\u2019s Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a further hearing before the Jersey Royal Court on 13th and 14th January.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRelated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The deal is five years longer than Guernsey\u2019s contract with Brittany Ferries, making any hope of working together&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":119961,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[6052],"tags":[7855,6057,8934,6201,30648],"class_list":["post-119960","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dfds","tag-brittant-ferries","tag-dfds","tag-ferry-contract","tag-kirsten-morel","tag-tender"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@dk\/116843360099502025","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/119960","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=119960"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/119960\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/119961"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=119960"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=119960"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=119960"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
