{"id":121112,"date":"2026-07-02T18:22:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T18:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/121112\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T18:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T18:22:12","slug":"warsaw-traffic-commission-mulls-double-roundabout-as-a-fix-to-pope-street-congestion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/121112\/","title":{"rendered":"Warsaw traffic commission mulls double roundabout as a fix to Pope Street congestion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Pop-Streeettt.png\" data-caption=\"The map is based on artwork provided by the city of Warsaw.&#10;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"370\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Pop-Streeettt.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Pop Streeettt\"\/><\/a>The map is based on artwork provided by the city of Warsaw.<\/p>\n<p>By Dan Spalding<br \/>News Now Warsaw<\/p>\n<p>WARSAW \u2014 Construction of two roundabouts is being considered as a long-term solution to reduce traffic congestion in the area around Detroit and Pope Streets in Warsaw.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s traffic commission unveiled six options on Wednesday aimed at improving traffic flow in an area that includes Detroit, Pope and Prairie streets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The commission is looking at both short-term and long-term solutions that would\u00a0reduce congestion, in part, by measures that would deter motorists from using the three streets as a shortcut around State Road 15.<\/p>\n<p>Six options were presented to the traffic commission <a href=\"https:\/\/vsengineering.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by VS Engineering<\/a>, Indianapolis<\/p>\n<p>Combined, the roundabouts at Pope and Detroit and Pope and McClellan Street would essentially create an elongated Figure 8.<\/p>\n<p>The roundabouts would roughly cost a combined $4.1 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two other options would rely on right-turn-only street designs and cost either $300,000 or about $160,000.<\/p>\n<p>Intended improvements are also complicated by railroad tracks that cross Pope between Detroit and McClellen.<\/p>\n<p>Public Works Director Dustin Dillon said future decisions will be based on what\u2019s affordable.<\/p>\n<p>City Councilman Michael Klondaris has been studying the issue for years and offered his thoughts, saying there are no easy solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conclusion that I\u2019m kind of coming to is that the best long-term alternative at that intersection would be to put in a traffic circle or mini roundabout\u2026 that will allow people to go the directions that they want to go,\u201d Klondaris said.<\/p>\n<p>The owners of historic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/warsawcutglass\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warsaw Cut Glass<\/a> also have a keen interest in seeing the intersections upgraded.
